Food Combining Fats and Carbohydrates
The combination of carbohydrates and fats can inhibit effective digestion. There is a lot of controversy over how particular food combinations affect digestion. Some schools argue there is little if any detriment while many diets are based around proper food combining. To quickly put an end to this argument ask yourself the following question:
“Have you ever had indigestion or an upset stomach even though the foods you ate were fresh?”
If you can answer no then chances are it does not matter what types of food you eat together. If you answer yes (like 99% of humanity) then you will probably benefit from consciously watching what foods you combine.
Certain foods combined result in an end product no different from a rotten or spoiled food. For example, take a glass and mix some orange juice and milk. What happens? The milk will curdle. Curdled milk does not digest making the possibility of absorbing any nutrient unlikely.
As you grow older, the environment in your stomach changes. The ratio of good bacteria and bad bacteria adjusts. This explains why particular food combinations and foods you could eat as a child with no problem now may cause problems like indigestion, gas and bloating.
While certain combinations of food are definitely harder to digest than others it is not necessarily the food combination that causes the problem as much as the portions of each food that causes the problems.
In addition, to add to the confusion, everyone is different and even the same person experiences changes in the possible effectiveness of their digestive system as they grow older.
To summarise, the goal of the meal plans in this book is to put foods together that have little risk of causing upset stomach or digestive difficulties. The goal is to put together meals that are easy to digest thus providing maximum nutritional intake to support an explosive growth spurt. There is no “hocus-pocus” in this common sense approach. There is lots of information on food combinations later in the course. Regardless of which meal plan is right for you, before you begin any of these meal plans it is recommended to complete the Underground Growth Preparation Phase in a following section for maximum result.
